Black Atom Movement were excellent tonight; they were loud, charged, humorous, talented, purposeful.

But tonight belonged to the support band Mouses, who stole the show with a front man desperate to communicate to the world.

Like a Strummer or a Weller, there was a physicality and anger to the performance; and yet like a Stipe or a (Brett) Anderson, there was also a sadness and longing hidden in the songs and in the gaps – the facial expressions, the caressing of the guitar, the uncertainty of where to stand between songs.

With every emotion on display, and every ounce of self given, this was the bravest show I’ve ever seen.
