It can’t be easy to mimic a band regarded as the creative force of a genre-defining sound, with a frontman deemed as one of the greatest ever.
Musically, the Sex Pistols Experience, nail a sound that has become too easy to trivialise as ‘hooligan art’ (if you’re in any doubt of the importance the band placed on their sound check out Steve Jones autobiography where he talks of his contempt of the ‘anyone have a go’ element of punk) but it’s the impersonation of Rotten which is near perfect performance art. We get the death stare, the quick wit, the back-of-the-throat vocal delivery and the stage presence.
The Sex Pistols were the most important band of their generation, if not ever.
This is a more than appropriate tribute.
