Marketplace. 15.7.21. Middlesbrough town hall.

Taking to the stage with his blend of pop minimalism, Luke Royalty opens up tonight’s set in laid back style with compositions using solo guitar and piano instrumentation.   Producing a style that suits his partly spoken word delivery, tracks like I do, Dead leaves, and Midnight Friday do a good job of exposing elements of modern life for North-Eastern youths including tales of boredom, dead end Jobs, and plastering on fake smiles to keep up appearances.

Choosing an alternative dynamic to reference modern life, Hartlepool’s Marketplace close the show with a string of post punk/ dream pop tracks which sparkle with optimism and pop art references   Technically proficient, though in need of tightening up their live performance in places, the Marketplacer’s showcase sounds, aesthetics and ideas that could blossom heavily with the right type of support and encouragement.   Two great young bands with bags of potential; now comes the hard part.
